Abstract: “Looking for Mr. Green” is a famous short story of Saul Bellow who is an American novelist and the Nobel Prize winner for literature. The paper analyzes zero as goodness and different peoples pursuit of zero of goodness and different images of deviation embodied by the pursuit in the story with the binary relation of zerodegree and deviation in rhetoric. Mr. Green is an embodiment of goodness. He penetrates the whole story with the form of a vacant zero and is shown by different peoples pursuit of goodness. With the description of Mr. Green and his deviation images，Bellow expresses his idea that the persistent pursuit of goodness is the foundation that makes a man human being.

摘要： 《寻找格林先生》是美国小说家和诺贝尔文学奖得主索尔·贝娄的著名短篇小说。采用修辞学作为方法论意义的零度与偏离二元关系，解读小说中作为善的零度以及人物对于作为善的零度的追求和在追求中表现出的偏离形象；格林先生是善的化身，是以零度空位的形式隐含地贯穿于整个小说的始终，通过不同人物对善的追求体现出来。通过对格林先生及其偏离形象的刻画，贝娄表达了对善的追求是人之所以为人的思想。
