Abstract: In The Passion of New Eve, Angela Carter deconstructs maternal myth through building a new mother image. Different from traditional mother image, “Mother” in Carters novel appears to be fantastic and monstrous, which is a subversion towards traditional and fixed female image. She thinks that maternal myth also represses women, just like paternal myth. Feminism usually takes motherhood as the source of female power, which is harmful for women to get away from patriarchal shackles. By blurring gender boundary and fabricating a new mother image, Carter attempts to deconstruct matriarchal myth, in an effort to remove fetters for women.

摘要: 安吉拉·卡特的《新夏娃的激情》荒诞怪异,不仅表现为小说中模糊了男女性别界限,还通过塑造新型母亲形象以解构传统的母权神话。与传统的母亲形象截然不同,卡特笔下的“母亲”颠覆了传统女性的身体形象。卡特认为母权神话同父权神话一样压抑女性,女性主义常常将母性看作女性力量的源泉,不利于将女性从男性中心论的桎梏中解放出来。卡特通过模糊性别界限,虚构新型母亲形象,以实现对母权神话的解构,去除束缚在女性身上的枷锁。
