Abstract: In the 1960s and 1970s, the U.S. achieved fruitful results on water pollution control ,conducted successively six specific modifications of “Federal Water Pollution Control Act” , perfected the water pollution control legal system , attached importance to the judicial role to play water pollution control , strengthened water pollution control functions of administrative agencies, improved public participation system, and strictly enforced water pollution discharge permit system, which provides many beneficial experiences and inspirations for controling present serious water pollution in china.

摘要： 20世纪六七十年代，美国水污染控制取得了丰硕的成果，先后六次对《联邦水污染控制法》进行了有针对性的修改，完善了水污染治理的法律体系，重视发挥水污染控制的司法作用，强化了水污染控制行政机构的职能，健全了公众参与制度，并严格执行水污染排放许可证制度，为我国治理当下严重的水污染提供了诸多有益的经验和启示。
