空间书写的边缘生存 ——《潜水鸟》的空间叙事及其意义

Abstract: Based on spatial narrative theory, the spatial narrative features in The Loons by Margaret Laurence, a Canadian female writer, is explored. In the novel, the movements and changes of physical spaces bring displacements and estrangement of social spaces and finally lead to the closure of Piquettes psychological space and combination of physical space and implied space, together with the narrative techniques like flashback, configuration and first person narration, co-produces the marginalization and tragedy of the protagonist. Spatial narration in The Loons helps to figure out the personality of the protagonist and contributes to the construction of the theme.

摘要: 以空间叙事理论为基础,分析加拿大女作家玛格丽特·劳伦斯的短篇小说《潜水鸟》的空间叙事特点。小说将物理空间和隐喻空间紧密结合,通过回溯、并置、第一人称等叙事手段的运用,女主人公皮格特在物理空间的挪移和置换交织着社会空间的异质生存体验,并最终投射到其拥堵和闭锁的心理空间,书写了她的边缘生存境况及其人生悲剧。《潜水鸟》中的空间形塑了皮格特的主体特性,成为小说主题建构的重要载体。
