Abstract: Langston Hughes, an African American writer, has created a number of childrens poems. However, his identity as a childrens poet and the value of his childrens poetry have not been fully appreciated in the academic circles. He always pays attention to the interaction between art and reality, and the moral and educational function of literature, which also serves as one of the basic principles for his creation of childrens poetry. Therefore, this paper intends to explore the ethical implications in Hughes childrens poetry from three aspects, namely, the ethical disorder, the ethical shaping and the ideal vision, to demonstrate Hughess social responsibility and moral mission as a modernist writer.

Key words: Langston Hughes; childrens poetry; ethic; morality
