Abstract: The expedition to Derna is an American military action of 1805 in the first Barbary war. The whole military action from planning to implementation, which lasted more than four years, is the first authorized action by the government of the United States, which was directly involved in the leadership of overseas military operations. In planning the operation, the United States always advertised her “justice”. But behind the actual results, there is a lot of reality. It also profoundly reflects the American foreign activities under “justice”, “freedom”. The basic core is of self interests.
