Abstract: Mr. Sammlers Planet is an important novel of Saul Bellow who is a famous Jewish American writer and the winner of Nobel Prize for literature in 1976.The novel was interpreted with illness narrative from such two aspects of Sammler, the protagonist, as a subject of illness and Gruners fatal illness as the central event in the novel. The conclusion that the illness narrative in the novel effectively deepens the theme of social criticism is drawn .
