Abstract: Desire is an important theme running throughout the USA writer Roths novels. In his early works, the subjects emotional desire is prominent in the process of being assimilated; his middle works mainly highlight the subjects carnal desire in its search of self identity; his later works turn to describe the selfactualization of the protagonist. Thus transferring from the natural attribute prompted by instinct to later social attribute, Roth has deeply analyzed the complicated internal world of the characters.

摘要： 欲望是隐藏在美国作家菲利普·罗斯小说中的重要主题。纵观罗斯的作品，欲望主题贯穿始终。早期作品中，主体在同化环境中的情感欲望比较突出；中期作品中，主体在探寻自我身份困境下释放的情欲主题非常明显；后期作品中，则转向对主人公自我实现的欲望的描写。从最初具有的本能的自然属性到后来所具备的社会属性，他为读者深刻剖析了人物复杂的内心世界。
