Mergence and Return Between the East and the West --Analysis of the Image of Ramanujan in The Man Who Knew Infinity

Abstract: Ramanujan who lived in the late 19th and early 20th century was one of the most famous mathematicians in Indian history. His leap of intuition puzzled even todays mathematicians, and the theorems he discovered were applied to various fields. Hardy, as his teacher and friend, was a famous British mathematician who had a classic collaboration with him in the history of science. Hardy believed that Ramanujan not only learned mathematics, but more importantly discovered and created it. Hardy thought his greatest achievement in mathematics was his discovery of Ramanujan. Ramanujan, with his traditional Indian culture and national mathematical tradition background, came to Cambridge, and then the two mathematicians from totally different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, after going through different opinions until identity, finally achieved academic and spiritual integration under the cultural impact of the east and the west. Through the analysis of this historical academic process, the significance and value of the integration and regression of the eastern and western cultures are discussed.

摘要: 拉马努金生活于19世纪末20世纪初,是印度历史上最著名的数学家之一。他的直觉跳跃甚至令今天的数学家感到迷惑,他发现的定理被应用到各种不同领域。拉马努金的老师兼朋友哈代是英国著名数学家。哈代认为拉马努金不仅仅学习数学,更重要的是发现并创造了数学。来自印度传统文化和民族数学传统的拉马努金来到剑桥后,两位文化背景和信仰截然不同的数学家从歧见到认同,在东方和西方的文化冲击下最终达到学术与心灵的融合。通过对这一历史学术过程的剖析,指出东西方文化融合和回归的意义与价值。
