Abstract: Since English versions of classical Chinese poetry in the 17th century emerged，Western missionaries，sinologists have produced diversified and quality translations. Among them，Helen Waddell draws far less attention from the Chinese lyrics，which is one of few earlier metrical versions of Shijing. This article introduces the poettranslator Waddell and her main works，then analyzes the characteristics of themes of selected poems，poetic form，and adaptation in contents. It concludes that the themes of materials focus on love and marriage，political concerns，and banquet. Feminism singles out in the translated notes. The arrangement of lines and stanzas complies more with the norms of English poetry. In the end，the impacts of the poetic background are examined on her personalized translations.
